About
LSA Varna Ltd. was founded by Krasimir Tomov, a Marine Engineer who earned his Master’s degree from the esteemed Naval Academy Nicola Vaptzarov in 1986.
Initially, Tomov worked as a Marine Engineer onboard vessels until 1989. He then transitioned to a role in the Shiprepair department at Navibulgar, where he was responsible for organizing and overseeing the reconditioning of ship’s spare parts.
From the end of 1991 to 1993, Tomov managed the construction of the NMB service station for liferafts and brought it into line with the requirements and recommendations of the manufacturers and IMO resolution A.761(A). In 1993, thanks to the efforts and hard work of Tomov and the team, the station received the necessary approval from the Executive Agency of the Maritime Administration and began its activity.
Over the years, the station has obtained authorizations from leading manufacturers—including RFD, RFD Beaufort, RFD-TOYO, DSB Deutsche Schlauchboot, TVB, SEETEX, AUTOFLUG, Viking Life-Saving Equipment A/S, Shanghai Youlong Rubber Products Co., Ltd., and CSM Shanghai Star Rubber Products Co., Ltd.—positioning it as the largest and most trusted liferaft service station in Bulgaria.
In addition to liferaft inspections, Tomov played a key role in building and developing onboard and shore-based services for fire-fighting systems and equipment, as well as self-contained breathing apparatuses (SCBA).
To ensure consistently high standards in the department’s activities, Tomov developed detailed work procedures to serve as quality guidelines where OEM procedures were unavailable. In collaboration with colleagues from the QA and Legal departments, these procedures—along with the department’s overall operations—were incorporated into NMB’s Quality Control System (QCS) and the company’s ISO 9001:2015 certification.
Furthermore, the department has obtained and maintained approvals for their services from multiple IACS Class societies, including Lloyd’s Register, Germanisher Lloyd inherited by DNV Germanisher GL, DNV, Bureau Veritas, RINA, Russian Register, and China Classification Society.
Since 2016, the department has expanded its services to include lifeboat inspections. Following OEM training and certification, Tomov and his team have successfully performed annual and five-year lifeboat services on over 40 vessels in the ports of Varna, Burgas, and Constanta.
In February 2023, Tomov founded LSA Varna Ltd. as a private company specializing in the trading of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), life-saving, and fire-fighting equipment.
