Hydrostatic release unit for EPIRB, Hammar H20E

HE-0100,  H20E for EPIRBs

Item code: 101034

Plastic bolt, standard type (98mm x M8) Including 2 washers.  Item code: 101035

The Hammar H20 is widely used for EPIRBs. Fifty percent of the world’s EPIRB manufacturers are using the Hammar H20 for the free float function. If the vessel sinks, the Hammar H20 is activated by increasing water pressure and automatically releases the EPIRB. When reaching the surface, the EPIRB starts to emit a signal of identification and position to a satellite. Instead of the rope sling, a specially developed plastic bolt secures the radio beacon and will be cut when the unit is activated.

Approvals

Free-float arrangements for emergency radio equipment are regulated in Resolution A.662(16), and the approval to SOLAS lies with the manufacturer of the EPIRB and bracket. This differs a lot from the H20 for rafts, where Hammar has a type approval and under the European Commission receives a “wheelhouse” mark. For free float arrangements of liferafts, a whole section in Resolution MSC. 48(66) is dedicated to the performance and construction of the HRU for rafts.

Bolts/Rods

Hammar produces the release mechanism for many of the world’s EPIRB manufacturers. The EPIRB manufacturers, in many cases, produce their own bolts, and the H20 E is regarded as a component in the float-free bracket.

Important

Use only manufacturer-approved replacement bolts/rods. The bolt should always be changed together with the release unit every two years.

Maintenance

The Hammar H20 is made of glass fiber reinforced nylon, which means it will not rust. The Hammar H20 needs no annual service, maintenance, or spare parts. You simply install a new unit every two years and dispose of the old one.

Simple handling procedures mean that storage costs are kept to a minimum. With the H20, installation is both quick and easy, significantly reducing your customers’ downtime ashore.

The Hammar H20 is the biggest selling hydrostatic release unit in the world. It is safe, reliable and its simple design has earned more worldwide approval than any other unit.
